The National Business Travel Association – Canada (NBTA-Canada), the leading provider of education and professional resources for corporate travel professionals in Canada, on Monday participated in the launch of the NEXUS program at Calgary International Airport. As supporters of the NEXUS program, designed to expedite the Canadian-U.S. border clearance process, NBTA-Canada and the National Business Travel Association (NBTA) are pleased the program is expanding.

In addition to Calgary, airports in Vancouver, Toronto, Montréal, Ottawa and Halifax currently operate kiosks for over 130,000 NEXUS members, and, according to Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), the program is expected to operate soon in Edmonton and Winnipeg.

NBTA-Canada President Tanya Racz commented: “As a frequent trans-border business traveler I learned very quickly the benefits of membership in NEXUS. Many of our members across Canada and the U.S. have since joined themselves, noting the user-friendliness of the program, the time it saves business travelers and their respective companies, and the added security it provides travelers -- all at a very reasonable cost. We are very excited the program is continuing to expand across the country.”

NEXUS, a joint venture between the CBSA and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, is designed to simplify border clearance for low-risk, pre-approved travelers into Canada and the United States at airports and highway border crossings. NEXUS applications are now available online for Canadian and U.S. residents and can be applied for at post offices across Canada similar to that of passport applications. Passports are not required to apply for NEXUS, any proof of citizenship and residency will do, and members can use NEXUS cards at a NEXUS kiosk at participating airports as an alternative to a passport when entering the U.S. by air. Visit www.nexus.gc.ca for more information and to apply.

Next month, NBTA-Canada and NBTA will participate in the Can/Am Border Trade Alliance conference in Washington, D.C. From September 9-11, 2007, attendees at “Canadian/U.S. Border: A Unified Focus” will address customs and border protection and homeland security issues, to include border crossing developments and technologies. NBTA-Canada and NBTA will sponsor a luncheon on September 10 with keynote speaker Ambassador Michael Wilson from the Canadian embassy to discuss “The Canadian Perspective.”
